Homemade Enchilada Sauce Recipe

If you’ve ever made enchiladas before, you know that the sauce can make or break your recipe. That’s why I always make my homemade enchilada sauce to go along with any enchilada dish I might have planned for the evening.
One of my favorite things about this recipe is how easy it is to make. I can easily make it spur of the moment as long as I have canned tomato sauce on hand.
The rest of the ingredients are always in my spice cabinet, so I can quickly throw together some enchilada sauce for the meal. It’s also quick to make, which definitely makes it a favorite for me.
Not only is this enchilada sauce easy to make, it’s also delicious. Anytime we get enchiladas somewhere else, my family can immediately taste the difference. This just proves that fresh and homemade is definitely the way to go!
HOMEMADE ENCHILADA SAUCE
Ingredients
- 16 ounces canned tomato sauce
- 8 ounces water
- 1/2 tablespoon Chili Powder
- 1 teaspoon Cumin
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
Additional Items Needed
- Can Opener
- Medium Saucepan
- Measuring Spoons
How to Make Enchilada Sauce
- Add ingredients into a medium saucepan and bring it to a boil over medium to high heat.
- Reduce heat to simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and use in your favorite enchilada recipes.
