Frequently Asked Questions

Can you overcook pulled pork?

Yes, it is possible to overcook pulled pork. If you undercook or overcook pork, it will be tough so knowing that sweet spot is key to a tender pulled pork recipe. The ideal internal temperature should be 200 degrees to 205 degrees Fahrenheit.

Can you slow cook pork without liquid?

Using a slow cooker with no liquid is essentially like slow roasting in a low oven, like cooking pulled pork wrapped in foil, but the meat will not be browned unless you did so before you started the slow cooker.

Why won’t my pulled pork pull apart?

It could be one of two reasons. Either you cooked it too long at too high a temperature so it dried out. Or you didn’t cook it quite long enough for it to pull apart easily. I find cooking in a bit of liquid helps make it more tender as well.

Is it better to cook pulled pork on high or low?

You can slow cook pork on either high or low, but you want to make sure you are cooking it for the right length of time. For instance, with this pulled pork recipe, you can cook it on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours.
