Summer Routines for Kids
It’s hard to believe that another school year has passed by. The kids are home for the summer and it’s time to get the kids into a summer routine, but how? Here are some tips on how to can get your kids on a summer routine and still save your own sanity.
Schedule Activities at the Same Time Each Day
If you have a play date in mind for your kiddos, it’s best to try and schedule them around the same time each day or week. Kids love when they are in a routine and when they know what will happen next. Having different events scheduled all over the calendar will prevent your kids from getting into a routine this summer.
Write Down Your Routine
Just like adults like to know what’s happening during their day, so do kids. Get a cheap dry erase board and write down the schedule each and every day. Try to keep things like lunch and dinner at the same time each day; this will help everyone fall into a healthy routine.
Add as Much Structure as Possible
Staying up late, waking up late, and not having any structure is one way to throw a routine out the window this summer. Adding structure is one of the only ways to create a routine. You need to have some events that are the same or similar every day. Even following a routine for things you do during the day is important. For example- Start getting ready for bed at 7:30 (brush teeth & pajamas) and then bed time at 8.
Sprinkle in Fun
Some parents have the misconception that a routine means no fun at all, but that’s not true. A routine helps your family stay healthy and happy during those summer months when everyone’s regular schedule is thrown off. It does take some time to get into a routine, so keep this in mind when you’re working hard to put your family’s routine together this summer. Whatever you do, DON’T FORGET THE FUN THIS SUMMER.
